Brakes hold loads on cranes, hoists and conveyors. They are safety components whose linings wear regularly and must be replaced in time.

The common designs

Spring-applied brakes are closed by spring force and released electromagnetically. If the power fails, they brake automatically. They are often mounted directly on the motor. Drum and disc brakes with a thruster are common on cranes and large drives.

Wear parts are linings, friction discs and, on electro-hydraulic thrusters, also seals and oil. For the replacement, braking torque, size, thruster voltage, lining dimensions and the lining material approved by the maker matter, because a different friction value changes the braking torque. After changing the linings, reset the air gap and check the braking effect.

What a request for brake parts should contain

  • nameplate of the brake or thruster
  • braking torque and size
  • lining material
  • voltage of the magnet or thruster
  • parts needed: linings, friction disc, thruster
  • quantity and requested delivery date
