Not every part carries a number. On older plants, in-house builds or worn parts it is often missing. A drawing, good photos and measured dimensions then help.

Three ways to the right part

The safest basis is a technical drawing with dimensions, tolerances, material and surface finish. It allows remanufacturing even when the original part is no longer available.

Without a drawing, photos from several directions with a scale in the picture and the main dimensions help. For wear parts, measure at a point with as little wear as possible and describe the wear. The machine’s parts list can often also identify the position of the part.

What a request without part number should contain

  • drawing if available, otherwise photos with a scale
  • main dimensions, threads and fits
  • material, if known, and surface treatment
  • machine and installation point of the part
  • quantity and requested delivery date
