In hydraulics, valves control the direction, pressure and quantity of the oil flow. A faulty valve is easy to replace when its function and mounting pattern are known.

Valve types and their ratings

Directional valves switch the direction, for example as a 4/3 directional valve with four ports and three positions. Pressure valves limit or reduce pressure, flow valves such as throttles and flow control valves set the oil quantity and thus the speed.

Subplate directional valves have a standardised mounting pattern to ISO 4401, usually called NG 6 or NG 10 in trade; pressure and flow valves have their own standardised patterns. For the replacement, the symbol with centre position, the solenoid voltage, the connector type and the permitted pressure also matter.

What a request for a hydraulic valve should contain

  • type designation of the valve and of the solenoid
  • nominal size or mounting pattern and symbol
  • coil voltage and connector type
  • maximum operating pressure and flow
  • quantity and requested delivery date
